A lifelong musician driven by a passion for using the power of sound to heal and connect people. While studying Music Therapy at Seattle Pacific University, he was awarded a prestigious research grant to conduct a pilot study investigating the physiological benefits of maternal soundscapes for premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
His clinical study focused on developing a precise methodology: recording a mother's heartbeat and voice, then arranging them rhythmically on a continuous loop. This custom soundscape served as a natural sleep aid and a vital shield against the stressful, overstimulating auditory environment of the NICU.
The Power of Prenatal Connection
Spencer’s extensive review of medical literature revealed a profound physiological reality: between 24 and 32 weeks of gestation, a developing fetus forms associative memories within the hippocampus. The mother’s heartbeat and voice become deeply wired into the infant's brain as the ultimate signals of safety, comfort, and nurturing.
Because a newborn already possesses this profound, instinctual connection to their mother before birth, maternal auditory stimulation remains the most effective, natural way to soothe and calm a baby after they are born.
A Mission to Support Every Family
Inspired by these powerful scientific findings, Spencer founded Heartbeat Tranquility to bring this clinical-grade, deeply moving experience to expecting mothers everywhere. His work allows families to capture a personalized heartbeat lullaby that serves as a beautiful, scientifically backed sleep aid for their newborns.
As Heartbeat Tranquility grows, Spencer’s ultimate vision remains rooted in clinical care. A portion of the company’s growth will directly fund further medical research, with the long-term goal of implementing this restorative service in NICU departments worldwide to support the most vulnerable newborns.
